Who are the PondPeeps?
“We should have brought a camera!” “We should write this down, keep track of it.” Well, we’re finally getting around to doing it. Pondpeeps is about what we see in the park, our backyard and sometimes beyond – even out of the country.
We live in Jacksonville, Florida and love our daily walk through nearby Earl Johnson Memorial Park. We are often joined by our budding naturalist grandsons, Quinn and Josh and we even drag along a few neighbors when we can talk them into it. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission maintains the two fishing ponds there, as part of the Jacksonville Urban Pond Project and the area is also known as the St. Augustine Road Fish Management Area. We have our own small backyard pond with a fountain and frogs – many frogs. And at Josh’s house, they built a Koi pond a few years ago that provides plenty of entertainment too.
I take most of the photos here with my little Canon G12 “snappy” – it is small and light – all the more reason to kick ourselves for not carrying it years earlier. Josh also uses the G12 and his iPhone5. Quinn uses a Nikon CoolPix, which is turning out to be a pretty nifty little camera for taking photos of birds and spiders and frogs.
We are also underwater naturalists and authors of marine life identification guides. You can check out our books at www.fishid.com and our marine life blog at BlennyWatcher.com.
